Agriculture has the potential to deliver a range of environmental public goods, from water quality to soil health, biodiversity, climate protection, animal welfare, food security and public health. EuroChoices Volume 24, Issue 3: Special Issue on Rewarding Environmental Outcomes from Agriculture presents the Dutch eco-scheme as an example of a results-based scheme that fits well into the new delivery model of the CAP 2023–2027. Offering farmers a menu of 22 eco-activities from which they can choose every year, the model demonstrates uptake that exceeded expectations. The points and medal system contains multiple eco-objectives (5 combinations), minimum thresholds, regional differences and differentiated payments.
